Sculpting with Castilene Wax
The first thing I did was, microwave the castilene clay and knead it until smooth. Then I take the sketch that Vinnie did and start by roughing in the legs and working them into the torso, then roughing in the arms and head. The likeness doesn't have to be "dead on" right away, just rough in were the features of the face are, then put some hair on the head. Keep plenty of anatomy books around, and keep checking proportions.
The next stage is smoothing the wrinkles out, do this by taking some sand paper and pulling the wrinkles together. Then I start looking at the shin guards and watching how they relate with the socks. I scribe in vertical line to make it look more like socks. I aslo start cleaning up the figure.

The next stage is shaping the figure, taking it and tightening the muscle. Then putting some clothes on the figure, do this by simply taking pieces of clay and placing them where you think they make sense. Since he is running I make it look as if the wind is pushing on his shirt and the wrinkles are spreading to the back of his shirt.
I also start getting some reference pics of Roberto Baggio , and start taking the features that I placed down early to the "next level" . I also start shaping his hands some.
The next stage is cleaning up the figure and putting detail into it. I really study Baggio's face now, make sure every part of the face is correct. I sculpt in the hair and shape his ponytail, I also clean the facial hair. I sculpt rings on his hands, then the elastic around the wrists and neck of the shirt. I get plenty of shoe reference for his cleats.
Next I get some wire tools and smooth out the piece.
This stage is simply taking turn around pictures of the piece and studying them. If there was something that you were "iffy" on then this is where it would show up. I like what I see then proceed on the base.
For the base, I take some tin foil and fold the corners up to make a box shape (it will act as a "cup") I microwave the castilene in a glass bowl, till it is a liquid. Then I pour it into the tin foil box. When it cools I trim the edges and start picking at the top of the clay. Then I start scribing in the grass.Very time consuming. I carve out a spot for the foot that is planted into the soil. There you have it Roberto Baggio on the field!!!
